How To Use
Before applying, it’s worth testing your soil pH so you know how acidic it currently is and how much lime it may need. Scatter the granules evenly over the soil surface by hand or using a garden spreader, then rake or lightly fork them into the top layer of soil. Watering in afterwards, or applying just before rain, helps the lime start working its way down into the soil. It’s generally best applied during autumn or winter, well ahead of the main growing and planting season, allowing time for it to take effect.
Tips & Advice
Avoid applying garden lime at the same time as manure or fertiliser, as the two can react and reduce effectiveness — leave a gap of a few weeks between treatments. Wear gloves when handling and spreading, and try to apply on a still day to avoid the granules drifting. Since some plants such as ericaceous shrubs prefer acidic soil, it’s worth checking which areas of your garden actually need liming rather than treating the whole plot as a matter of course. Store any leftover lime in a dry place, as it can absorb moisture and clump over time.
