How To Use
Pour a suitable quantity of charcoal into your barbecue or chimney starter and arrange into a loose pyramid to allow good airflow. Light using firelighters, a chimney starter, or your preferred method, and leave to catch until the coals develop a light grey ash coating and glow evenly, which usually takes around twenty to thirty minutes. Spread the coals out once ready and cook as normal, adding a little extra charcoal if you need to keep the heat going for longer sessions.
Tips & Advice
Store the bag somewhere dry, as lumpwood charcoal can be slow to light and produce more smoke if it has absorbed moisture. Because lumpwood pieces vary in size, it’s worth breaking down any larger lumps before lighting so the fire catches more evenly across the bed. Avoid using lighter fuel or petrol to speed things up, as this can affect the flavour of your food and isn’t necessary once you get the knack of building a proper airflow through the coals.
