How To Use
Ensure the wood surface is clean, dry and free from old finishes or dust before applying. Apply the boiled linseed oil generously with a clean cloth or brush, working it into the grain, then leave it to soak in for a period before wiping away any excess that hasn’t absorbed. Multiple thin coats, applied with drying time in between, tend to give a better result than one heavy application, and the oil can be left to cure fully before the item is put to use.
Tips & Advice
Boiled linseed oil dries faster than raw linseed oil, but oil-soaked cloths and applicators can generate heat as they dry, so it’s sensible to lay them flat outdoors or soak them in water before disposal rather than screwing them up in a bin. Give new cricket bats several light applications over a few days to properly condition the wood, and reapply oil to outdoor furniture and tool handles periodically to keep them protected as the existing coating wears down.
